Principal Scientific Adviser for International Law
Professor Dan Sarooshi is Professor of Public International Law in the University of Oxford, a Fellow of the Queen’s College, Oxford, and a Fellow of the UK Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (FRSA). His books include International Organizations and Their Exercise of Sovereign Powers (OUP) and The UN and the Development of Collective Security (OUP). These books have been awarded the 2006 Myres S. McDougal Prize by the American Society for the Policy Sciences, the 2001 and 2006 American Society of International Law Book Prizes, and the 1999 Guggenheim Prize by the Swiss Guggenheim Foundation. Professor Sarooshi also practices as a Barrister at Essex Court Chambers, London, from where he advises and represents governments, international organizations, corporations, and other entities on public international law, international criminal and humanitarian law, WTO law, and international commercial arbitration. In 2008, he was elected to membership of the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law, and in 2006 he was appointed by the World Trade Organization (on the nomination of the UK Government and the European Communities) to the roster of Panellists of the WTO Dispute Settlement System.

Principal Scientific Adviser for Public International Law
Professor Dr. Andreas Zimmermann: Professor University of Potsdam and Director Potsdam Centre of Human Rights; Dr. jur. (Heidelberg), LL.M. (Harvard); former Member of the German delegation to the Preparatory Committee and the United Nations Diplomatic Conference on the Establishment of an International Criminal Court; member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration; counsel in various cases before the ICJ; judge ad hoc in various cases before the European Court of Human Rights; arbitrator under the annex to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties; member of the advisory boards on UN issues and on public international law of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs; inter alia co-editor of 'The Statute of the International Court of Justice: A Commentary' (Oxford University Press, 2006) and of the 'The 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol: A Commentary' (Oxford University Press, forthcoming 2010/2011).

Principal Scientific Adviser for International Criminal Law
Kai Ambos has been Chair of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Comparative Law and International Criminal Law at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen since May 2003 and Dean of Student Affairs since summer 2008. He is also Member of the Office of Examination (Justizprüfungsamt) of the Ministry of Justice of Lower Saxony and freelance consultant on the issues of international criminal law, transitional justice and judicial reform in Latin America to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ-German agency for technical cooperation), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and other organisations. From 1991 to 2003, he was senior research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany) in charge of the International Criminal Law and Spanish-speaking Latin America Sections. On behalf of Germany, he has participated in the negotiations on the creation of the International Criminal Court and later became a member of the expert working group of the German Federal Ministry of Justice on implementing the Rome Statute. He has also worked extensively in Latin America on human rights, drug-related issues and criminal law reforms. He has written widely on international criminal law and procedure in German, English, Spanish and Portuguese. He is a member of editorial boards of several international criminal journals in Europe and Latin America. His educational background includes: study of law and political science at the Universities of Freiburg (Germany), Oxford (United Kingdom) and Munich (Germany); 1st and 2nd state exams; and "Habilitation" (post-doctoral qualification for a professorship) in criminal law, criminal procedure, criminology, comparative law and public international law at the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich (Germany).

Principal Scientific Adviser for International Human Rights Law
Asbjørn Eide (1933- ) is former Director and presently Senior Fellow of the Norwegian Center for Human Rights at the University of Oslo. He was formerly a Director of the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO) and Secretary-General of the International Peace Research Association. He is the author of numerous books, contributions to books, articles in periodicals and studies for the United Nations on peace and conflict issues and human rights, including the seminal study on the right to adequate food as a human rights (1987) which has affected the subsequent literature and monitoring of economic, social and cultural rights. Among his books or books edited by him are 'The Universal Declaration of Human Rights: A Common Standard of Achievement' (with Gudmundur Alfredsson) and 'Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: A Textbook' (with C. Krause and A. Rosas). He has been Torgny Segerstedt Professor at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, Visiting Professor at the University of Lund, and Adjunct Professor at the College of Law, American University in Washington.  Asbjørn Eide was for 20 years, until 2004, an Expert Member of the United Nations Sub-Commission on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, the first Chairman of its Working Group on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and, from 1995 to 2004, Chairman of the United Nations Working Group on the Rights of Minorities. From 2002 to 2006, he was Member - and from 2004, the President - of the Advisory Committee on the Council of Europe's Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. He has also been President of the Panel of Eminent Experts on Ethics in Food and Agriculture, appointed by the Director General of FAO.
