Antonio Angotti

Editor
Antonio Angotti is a CILRAP Fellow and practices law in a law firm in Florence, Italy, concentrating on cases pertaining to refugee, criminal and civil law. He holds a law degree from the University of Florence and an LL.M. degree from the Dickinson School of Law. He has worked for Avocats Sans Frontiérés in Brussels and is a regional director for the Foundation for Law and International Affairs. His main academic interests are international human rights and criminal law and discrimination against women, particularly within Shari'a law.

Dr. Olympia Bekou

Editor
Olympia Bekou is Professor of Public International Law and Head, International Criminal Justice Unit, University of Nottingham Human Rights Law Centre. A qualified lawyer, she specialises in international criminal law. She has undertaken numerous capacity-building missions, including in post-conflict situations (such as Uganda, the DRC and Sierra Leone), has provided legislation drafting assistance to Samoa and Jamaica, and has been involved in training the Thai judiciary. She is responsible for the National Implementing Legislation Database (NILD) of the ICC Legal Tools Project and has taught extensively worldwide. In 2014, she was awarded the University of Nottingham Knowledge Exchange and Innovation Award for Societal Impact in Social Sciences for her work ‘Fighting Impunity through Technology: Strengthening the Capacity of National and International Criminal Justice Institutions to Investigate and Prosecute the Most Serious International Crimes’. In 2015-16, she was recognised as an impact leader under ESRC’s Impact Leaders Programme.

Mats Benestad

Mats Benestad started his professional career at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2010, and worked both at the field office in Iran and at headquarters in Vienna. In 2012, he joined the Legal Department of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he focused on anti-terrorism and sanctions law. Between 2016 and 2019, Benestad worked at the Norwegian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, before serving as the deputy head of mission at the Norwegian Embassy in Reykjavik, Iceland. Benestad holds a law degree from the University of Bergen, specializing in international law (American University, Washington, D.C.) and international criminal law (University in Oslo). He did his master thesis on prosecutorial discretion at the International Criminal Court.

Gabriel Bichet

Gabriel Bichet is simultaneously pursuing his graduate J.D. and an undergraduate degree in political science in a joint program at the University of Ottawa. He previously worked as an intern for CILRAP and is a Content Contributor in the French Lexsitus Team. Gabriel is bilingual and is legally competent in both English and French. His academic interests include international law, criminal law and constitutional law.

Alf Butenschøn Skre

Alf Butenschøn Skre holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a law degree from the University of Oslo. He works as a Prosecutor for the Director General for Public Prosecution in Norway. He has previously served at PRIO, the International Criminal Court’s Legal Tools Project, the Norwegian Embassy in The Hague, the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Parliament of Norway, and a law firm in Oslo.

Eleni Chaitidou

Eleni Chaitidou is a Senior Legal Officer in the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, on leave from the International Criminal Court. Before joining the ICC in 2006, she worked for several years at the Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität of Munich in the fields of public international and European Community law. Ms. Chaitidou has lectured and published extensively in international criminal law. She obtained the First and Second State Examinations in Law in Germany.

CHAN H.S. Icarus

CHAN H.S. Icarus is a lawyer from Hong Kong currently practicing in a law firm in New York. He holds law degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (where he also pursued Japanese Studies) and Leiden University. His research interest spans across public international law as well as issues arising out of the Japanese war crimes trials.

Editor
Wui Ling is an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS)'s Faculty of Law. She was educated at National University of Singapore (LL.B., LL.M.), Harvard Law School (LL.M.), European University Institute (Diploma in Human Rights Law, one of two diplomas awarded), and Oxford University (D.Phil.). She is a qualified lawyer, called to the New York Bar, and has a diploma in arbitration, from Queen Mary, University of London. For her postgraduate studies, she was recipient of a NUS scholarship and the Kathryn Aguirre Worth Memorial Scholarship. Prior to entering academia, she served as a legal officer at Interpol's General Secretariat (Lyon, France) where she specialized in international criminal law and cross-border police co-operation. She has also worked at the Serious Crimes Unit of Timor Leste and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (The Hague). In 2011, she was a Visiting Professional at the International Criminal Court. Her research and publications focus on international criminal law, human rights law, and criminal justice. Wui Ling has taught at the Centre of Transnational Legal Studies (London), Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 (France), Oxford University (UK), and Royal University of Law and Economics (Cambodia).

Medha Damojipurapu

Medha Damojipurapu is a CILRAP Fellow and an Advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of India. She holds a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) degree from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, India and is a prospective LL.M. candidate at Yale Law School (2023-2024). She was previously a Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant to late Justice Mohan M. Shantanagoudar at the Supreme Court of India. Her main research interests lie in the fields of international criminal law, the law on military occupations and the intersection between law and religion.

Dr. FAN Yuwen

FAN Yuwen is a CILRAP Research Fellow and has been a Research Fellow in the Research Group ‘The International Rule of Law – Rise or Decline?’ based in Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She obtained her Ph.D. in international law from Peking University Law School with a thesis on the interpretation of human rights treaties. During her doctoral studies, she was a visiting Ph.D. student at University College London and a Visiting Scholar in the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at University of Cambridge. She received an LL.M. in international law from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and an LL.B. from China University of Political Science and Law. She has also participated in the Human Rights Master Program of Peking University Law School.

Rohit Gupta

Editorial Assistant
Rohit Gupta, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, pursues research interests centred around the convergence of international humanitarian law and cyber- and space-warfare. He represented India at the Frankfurt International Arbitration Competition in 2018 and at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competitions in 2019 and 2020.

Marquise Lee Houle

Marquise Lee Houle holds a Master’s degree in Criminal law from Peking University, degrees in Québec Civil law (LL.B.) and Canadian Common law (BCL) from McGill University in Montreal and a DCS in Liberal Arts. She is also certified to practice law in the State of New York. Her professional interests are international criminal law, the laws of war, and history. She works for the Canadian Department of National Defence as an Analyst. She speaks English, French and Mandarin.

Subham Jain

Subham Jain is an Advocate enrolled at the Bar Council of Delhi and practices law at the High Court of Delhi. He holds an LL.B. from Campus Law Centre and a Bachelor of Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. He was awarded the 2019 International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL) India Studentship. He is actively engaged in providing legal aid to the underprivileged sections of society. His academic interests include international criminal law and international family law.

Fadi Khalil

Fadi Khalil is (North Africa’s) Expert Member of the Working Group on Death Penalty, Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Killings and Enforced Disappearances in Africa at the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. He is also a CMN Fellow and a Content Contributor in Lexsitus’s Arabic team. Fadi advises an ICC Defense Counsel, and is a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs. He holds an L.L.M in International Law from the University of Nottingham, UK Campus (awarded ‘Student most likely to become a Professor of Law’).

Manek Minhas

Manek Minhas is the Aryeh Neier Fellow at Open Society Foundations. She holds an LL.B. from National University of Singapore and an LL.M. from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. Previously, she was a Law Fellow at the Public International Law and Policy Group. She has been admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. Her professional interests include dispute resolution, international criminal law, human rights law and arbitration law. In pursuing these interests, she has been involved as a legal researcher or intern for several different projects. One such project was the Tasrif Award 2016 winner - the International People’s Tribunal 1965, a civil society initiative to try perpetrators of widespread crimes against humanity committed in 1965 in Indonesia.

Harshit Rai

Harshit Rai holds a B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) degree from Symbiosis Law School, Pune and is admitted to the bar in India. He has previously worked on issues of international migration and mobility with the India Centre for Migration, a research think tank associated with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. He was co-awarded the 1st CILRAP Scholarship for International Law (India) in 2017 for his essay 'India, Collective Security and the Veto Power'. His area of interest lies in the field of critical international law and human rights.

Dr. Nikolaus Scheffel

Nikolaus Scheffel is an Advisor for the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. He holds a Ph.D. and a law degree from the Free University Berlin, where he worked as a Research Assistant at the Chair of Public and European Law, Prof. Dr. Calliess. He passed his first state exam in Berlin in 2015. As an intern, he has worked for the Permanent Representation of Germany to the FAO, WFP and IFAD in Rome as well as the public prosecution service of Berlin.

Efrén Ismael Sifontes Torres

Efrén Ismael Sifontes Torres is a member of the Observatory of International Humanitarian Law at the University of Buenos Aires and his main academic interests lie in the fields of international criminal law and international humanitarian law. Efrén is an editor for the Spanish Elements Digest on Lexsitus. He represented the University of Buenos Aires at the 2023 ICC Moot Court Competition in Spanish.

Mansi Srivastava

Editorial Assistant
Mansi Srivastava graduated from National Law University, Jodhpur, in 2019 with a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), and received awards for representing India at various international moot courts. As a lawyer, she has advised foreign investors and the Indian government on clean energy and infrastructure projects, and legislative amendments to implement India’s international obligations. She also has experience as a judicial clerk and has assisted in drafting regulations for the India International Arbitration Centre. Her main research interests are public international law, its effects on domestic systems and accountability, and multilateralism in international institutions.

SONG Tianying

SONG Tianying is a Researcher at the European University Institute in Florence. She has been working as legal officer in the Regional Delegation for East Asia of the International Committee of the Red Cross since 2011. She holds a Master Degree in International Law (2013) and a Bachelor Degree in Law (2010) from China University of Political Science and Law. She passed the National Judicial Exam in 2009. As an intern, Tianying has worked in the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, the Department of Judicial Assistance and Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Justice of China, and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission. She represented China in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (2009) and in the International Air Law Moot Court Competition (2012). She was oralist of the winning team of the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot in China (2008).

Dr. Moritz Thörner

Moritz Thörner holds a Ph.D. and a law degree from the Free University Berlin, Second Legal State Examination from the Higher Regional Court Berlin, and an LL.M. from the College of Europe (Bruges). He has served the European Commission and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

ZHANG Yueyao

ZHANG Yueyao, a doctoral candidate at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, holds an LL.B. degree from Peking University, and LL.M. degrees from Peking University and UC Berkeley, specializing in public international law and commercial law respectively. She participated in the Human Rights Master Programme of the Research Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law of the Peking University Law School (PULS) and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law of Lund University, Sweden (RWI).
